[Atlas Fallen] Trying Out Failed Games

Sometimes when games get bad reviews and are considered failures, I still get curious and try them out if they’re sold really cheap. Last year, I tried a game called Forspoken. The graphics were good and the action was decent, so I played it for a few days. But the more I played, the more I realized that huge map was pretty empty and the story wasn’t engaging, so I only played a bit of the beginning before giving up. Now when I’m trying to write about it on my blog, I can’t even remember the game’s name and I don’t have any clues to search for it, so I just google anything and…

I googled: 2023 Failed Anticipated Games
Among the anticipated games that failed in 2023 is the game ‘Forstoken’

Even AI says Forspoken is a disaster ㅋㅋㅋ But seriously, with those graphics and that action system, I couldn’t believe a game could be that boring – it was incredibly unfun.

And recently while browsing Coupang(a Korean shopping site), I found a game called Atlas Fallen for about $15. At first glance it looked like a decent game and it wasn’t even released that long ago, so I wondered why it was so cheap and looked into it more. On Naver Store(a Korean price comparison site) it was about $8 ㅋㅋㅋ So I got curious and bought it.

But something feels off right from the character creation screen. The graphics look decent at first glance, but there’s something lifeless about it (?) – I don’t know how to describe it.

And when I actually run the game… I don’t even have any screenshots saved…

The game looks okay at first glance too. But first of all, it’s terribly optimized. I played it on PS5, and if you use performance mode, the graphics look like clay – what even is this? And if you use graphics mode, it doesn’t seem to reach 30fps. But the graphics mode isn’t even that amazing.

There are plenty of games that maintain over 30fps while running much better graphics smoothly. At this point, it feels like they just trusted the hardware performance, didn’t bother optimizing, and released it on PS5 without even doing internal testing ㅋㅋㅋ

Ha… this is even worse than Forspoken, so I turned it off. At least Forspoken had decent graphics but failed in game content, but this game seems hard to even try because the optimization is broken from the start.
