[Pokemon: Scarlet/Violet] Threw 50 Ultra Balls at Miraidon

I finished the ending of Scarlet/Violet a few years ago, but I had the DLC pre-ordered and never got around to playing it until now. When I started playing again, I realized I hadn’t caught any of those kinda scary sub-legendary Pokemon. And I also hadn’t caught the other Miraidon that became an orphan after the Professor died.

So I went to catch Miraidon, put it to sleep, and thought about what ball to use~ I figured an Ultra Ball would be perfect, so I threw Ultra Balls at it. I knew that unless it was an Ultra Beast, things don’t get caught that easily, but I was thinking it would be like a 50-50 chance, so I kept throwing them, but it wouldn’t get caught. I thought about using a Heavy Ball, but then I felt like doing something silly again. First, I didn’t have enough Ultra Balls, so I looked up how to get more Ultra Balls.

Luckily for Ultra Balls, the Item Printer in the DLC had already been completely figured out by users.

Rare Ball: January 1st, 2024, 0:05:05
Ultra Ball x5: August 23rd, 2000, 11:16:26

At first, I struggled because it wasn’t working well. After doing it for a while, I realized the timing down to the second was surprisingly tight. For Rare Balls, you have to press it right when it hits 5 seconds, and for Ultra Balls, you have to wait for 26 seconds to pass and then press it about 0.5 seconds later.

After doing this for about 2 hours, I managed to collect 61 of them.

Seriously, what is Blueberry Academy even doing? If they’re going to bring Pokemon all the way from Alola and release them here, they should import some Ultra Balls and stock them too!

For the team to catch Miraidon, I picked from my level 100 Pokemon.

First, I brought Umbreon (Sand Attack) to blind Miraidon by throwing sand in its eyes.

I did this same thing before when Tapu Lele wouldn’t go into a Heal Ball either.

Gallade (False Swipe) to beat up Miraidon until it’s about to faint.

I also brought a Focus Lens just in case I needed to use Hypnosis.

I brought Lilligant (Sleep Powder) to keep it asleep while throwing Ultra Balls at it.

Before heading out, I searched for the catch rate when using Ultra Balls. I found out that Ultra Balls have a 1/10 rate, and Miraidon’s catch rate was 3. Come on… these two really have different personalities – one follows around whoever feeds it after losing its master, while the other won’t follow anyone even after its master is gone…

I bet the Professor’s Miraidon probably beat up the player’s Miraidon and that’s why it ran away.

Anyway, with a catch rate of 3 and Ultra Balls… the calculator says… 0.23%… If I eat a sandwich it becomes 0.46… let’s just say 0.5%… then if I throw 200 balls it should go in! I have 60 right now, so if I repeat this 3-4 times I should catch it! (positive thinking)

The sandwich was made with 4 Grilled Chorizo, 3 Vinegar, and one Sweet Herba Mystica.

At the end, I needed to put it to sleep first, but things got tangled up and I threw the Ultra Ball first, and it went in on the first try, which completely surprised me.

When I caught it and checked its status, it only had 1 move left. Did it get caught just before fainting from Struggle…? What…? Does Pokemon have this kind of thing…? When I was trying to put Tapu Lele in a Heal Ball before, it kept dying from Struggle…? There’s no way a 0.5% chance would be caught this easily, so I don’t know if I was just lucky or if it went in before it used Struggle. What could it be?
